The latest innovations in non-surgical rejuvenation of the aging face are directed
towards longer lasting injectable materials. All of these materials are used for filling
deep grooves such as the smile lines around the lips. The gold standard remains to be
collagen but the new additions are promising.
Some of the new materials include Restylane, Perlane, Radiance and Artecoll. Only Radiance is currently an FDA approved material. It
has been approved for use in certain procedures not related to the face but can be used
as an off label product for filling the deep grooves and wrinkles on the face.
In the preliminary studies it has been found to last between 3 to 5 years which is considerably
longer than collagen. Artecoll and Restylane are also expected to get FDA approval in the
