Lip Resection

Certain individuals can have lips that are very large either in proportion to their face or in relation to the upper or lower lip. The lips can be reduced in size. It is done by removing the red part of the lip which is on the inner aspect of the lip. This helps in hiding the scars. The procedure can also be utilized for removing foreign material such as silicone that might have been injected in the past. The procedure takes about an hour and can be done under local anesthesia. The stitches are usually removed in one week. During this period patients are encouraged to limit the use of their lips. Diet has to be limited to soft foods and hot beverages or spicy foods should not be consumed. The initial swelling from surgery can take four to six weeks to resolve.
